Biography

Mr. Zemarai Kamgar, a renowned Afghan Trader and a Board Member of the ACB, was born on October 2, 1954, in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh Province, Afghanistan. He was raised in a wealthy family and completed his education with a B.A. in Technical Engineering from Balkh University. He also successfully completed a Faculty of Engineering course in Gas and Oil at Kabul University and is fluent in Dari, Pashto, and Russian.

His family's business journey began when his grandfather hosted the country’s reformist leader, King Amanullah Khan, after Afghanistan gained independence from British rule in 1919. The family started trading by exporting and importing fuel, cooking oil, food products, technical equipment, and construction materials from neighboring countries and the Soviet Union.

Mr. Kamgar aimed to serve his nation through fair business practices by creating employment opportunities and contributing to the prosperity of his homeland. He established a successful business group in Afghanistan, known as Kam Group, and expanded it throughout the region.

Today, Kam Group ranks as the third-largest business group in the country and plays a vital economic role in Afghanistan. The group is actively involved in various industries, including oil refining, aviation (both commercial and cargo), entertainment (TV and radio), charity, trading (export and import), and energy.

Under Mr. Zemarai Kamgar's leadership, Kam Air was founded, becoming the first private airline in Afghanistan. It significantly enhanced aviation transport within the country and has become a reliable link between Afghanistan and other nations, offering regular flights to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, India, Iran, and the UAE.

In addition to its business activities, Kam Group acts as an ambassador for cultural, social, and educational institutions in Afghanistan. The impact of their contributions is both visible and felt by the public and the government. The group remains committed to promoting the prosperity of the nation and building strong relationships among business communities and neighboring countries.

Mr. Kamgar is honored to support the Afghanistan National Cricket Team, which he believes inspires the younger generation and fosters unity and harmony among the people of Afghanistan. He advocates for the Afghanistan Cricket Board and the national team to be provided with sustainable market opportunities to improve their financial standing and strengthen cricket at the grassroots level across all provinces. He believes that cricket has brought the nation closer together and helped eliminate negative sentiments.
