Biography
Mr. Abdul Wali Amin,
High-Performance Center Manager, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB)
Abdul Wali Amin, born on June 11,
1975, in Dand District of Kandahar Province, is a highly experienced figure in
Afghanistan’s cricket development journey. He currently serves as the Manager
of the High-Performance Center (HPC) at the Afghanistan Cricket Board. In
this role, Mr. Amin oversees a wide range of services dedicated to improving
player performance, including professional coaching, physical fitness, medical
support, capacity-building programs, and overall high-performance management.
Mr. Amin holds a Bachelor of Arts
in Political Science from Jahan University in Kabul and brings a rich
background of over 15 years of service with the ACB, as well as 12 years of
professional experience with several national and international organizations,
including the United Nations Habitat.
His association with cricket
dates back to his early years as a player. Mr. Amin participated in
Afghanistan’s first-ever inter-provincial cricket tournament held in Kabul in
1996. He remained an active cricketer until 2009 before transitioning fully
into coaching and cricket administration, a decision driven by his passion for
developing the next generation of Afghan cricketers.
As a coach, Abdul Wali Amin has
had an impressive and impactful career. Some of his most notable achievements
include, leading the Afghanistan U16 team to a title victory in Thailand,
Coaching the U19 team to a 3-0 victory over the Afghanistan National Team,
Guiding the U19 side to a historic win over Bangladesh U19, marking Afghanistan
as the only associate nation to defeat a full-member team at the time and
Helping Afghanistan finish 10th out of 16 teams in the ICC U19 World Cup 2012.
As a member of the National
Selection Panel, Mr. Amin played an instrumental role in drafting Afghanistan’s
first formal Selection Policy. His tenure was marked by key milestones such as
winning the ACC U19 Asia Cup and reaching the Semi-Finals of the ICC U19
Cricket World Cup 2018.
Notably, the U19 team that won
the Asia Cup and reached the U19 World Cup semi-finals produced nearly 10
players who advanced to the senior national team, contributing significantly to
Afghanistan's cricketing success.
Throughout his tenure at the ACB,
Mr. Amin has held numerous important leadership roles, including serving as a
Regional Director, Junior Teams Head Coach, National Team Manager, Selection
Committee Member, Domestic Cricket Manager, Cricket Operations Manager, Discipline
Committee Member, Deputy Cricket Director, and now the High-Performance Center
Manager. He is also a Level Three Certified Coach and an ICC Level Two Coach
Educator.
Mr. Amin takes immense pride in
being part of the ACB’s remarkable journey. He acknowledges that while
Afghanistan’s cricket history is relatively short, the progress made has been
extraordinary compared to many other nations. He emphasizes that identifying,
nurturing, and polishing talent is crucial to the sustainable growth of Afghan
cricket.
He firmly believes in the
principle that “the reward for good work is more work”, stressing the need to
invest continually in domestic cricket. His focus remains on ensuring that
Afghanistan’s cricketing future is secure by strengthening the pipeline of
skilled and prepared players.
