Biography

Mr. Abdul Wali Amin, High-Performance Center Manager, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB)

Abdul Wali Amin, born on June 11, 1975, in Dand District of Kandahar Province, is a highly experienced figure in Afghanistan’s cricket development journey. He currently serves as the Manager of the High-Performance Center (HPC) at the Afghanistan Cricket Board. In this role, Mr. Amin oversees a wide range of services dedicated to improving player performance, including professional coaching, physical fitness, medical support, capacity-building programs, and overall high-performance management.

Mr. Amin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Jahan University in Kabul and brings a rich background of over 15 years of service with the ACB, as well as 12 years of professional experience with several national and international organizations, including the United Nations Habitat.

His association with cricket dates back to his early years as a player. Mr. Amin participated in Afghanistan’s first-ever inter-provincial cricket tournament held in Kabul in 1996. He remained an active cricketer until 2009 before transitioning fully into coaching and cricket administration, a decision driven by his passion for developing the next generation of Afghan cricketers.

As a coach, Abdul Wali Amin has had an impressive and impactful career. Some of his most notable achievements include, leading the Afghanistan U16 team to a title victory in Thailand, Coaching the U19 team to a 3-0 victory over the Afghanistan National Team, Guiding the U19 side to a historic win over Bangladesh U19, marking Afghanistan as the only associate nation to defeat a full-member team at the time and Helping Afghanistan finish 10th out of 16 teams in the ICC U19 World Cup 2012.

As a member of the National Selection Panel, Mr. Amin played an instrumental role in drafting Afghanistan’s first formal Selection Policy. His tenure was marked by key milestones such as winning the ACC U19 Asia Cup and reaching the Semi-Finals of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018.

Notably, the U19 team that won the Asia Cup and reached the U19 World Cup semi-finals produced nearly 10 players who advanced to the senior national team, contributing significantly to Afghanistan's cricketing success.

Throughout his tenure at the ACB, Mr. Amin has held numerous important leadership roles, including serving as a Regional Director, Junior Teams Head Coach, National Team Manager, Selection Committee Member, Domestic Cricket Manager, Cricket Operations Manager, Discipline Committee Member, Deputy Cricket Director, and now the High-Performance Center Manager. He is also a Level Three Certified Coach and an ICC Level Two Coach Educator.

Mr. Amin takes immense pride in being part of the ACB’s remarkable journey. He acknowledges that while Afghanistan’s cricket history is relatively short, the progress made has been extraordinary compared to many other nations. He emphasizes that identifying, nurturing, and polishing talent is crucial to the sustainable growth of Afghan cricket.

He firmly believes in the principle that “the reward for good work is more work”, stressing the need to invest continually in domestic cricket. His focus remains on ensuring that Afghanistan’s cricketing future is secure by strengthening the pipeline of skilled and prepared players.
