Mumtaz Omazai, Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Facility
and Turf Management Department’s Manager
Mumtaz Omarzai serves as the Manager of the Facility
and Turf Management Department at the Afghanistan Cricket Board. Born on April
18, 1980, in Maidan Wardak province, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil
Engineering from Kabul University and brings over 20 years of experience from
various organizations to his current role.
As department manager, Omarzai oversees the planning,
design, cost estimation, and re-estimation, implementation, monitoring,
evaluation, and handover of ACB construction projects. His leadership extends
to the restoration and construction of pitches, grass cultivation and
maintenance, revenue generation from grounds and academies, and the management
of ground staff, including curators, academy controllers, and general support
teams.
Under his direction, the department has successfully
delivered key projects across multiple provinces. His notable accomplishments
include the construction of Najibullah Taraki Cricket Ground, the decoration
and maintenance of the Fitness & Rehab Centers at Kabul Cricket Ground, the
complete construction of Laghman Cricket Ground, the Kandahar Cricket Academy,
the second phase of the Paktika Cricket Ground, and additional grounds in
Logar, Maidan Wardak, Helmand, and Balkh provinces. The construction of cricket
academies in Khost, Ghazni, and Paktia provinces, as well as the expansion of
the Rahmat Wali Masroor Cricket Ground in Khost province, highlight the
department’s broad impact.
Omarzai played a pivotal role in shaping the
country's sports infrastructure. His work goes beyond building stadiums,
facilities, and engineering; it creates foundations of hope and opportunities
for thousands of young cricketers, which fosters the growth and future of
cricket in the country.
