Mahipar Stars have produced an impressive all-round performance to defeat the Maiwand Champions by 6 wickets and registered their first victory in the 9th edition of the e& Ahmad Shah Abdali First-Class Tournament 2026, powered by SuperCola.
The match was played at the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Cricket
Stadium in Nangarhar Province. Mahipar Stars won the toss and elected to bowl
first, backing up their decision with an outstanding bowling display, with
captain Yamin Ahmadzai and Ibrahim Abdulrahimi leading the attack to dismiss
Maiwand Champions for just 71 runs. Yamin Ahmadzai was the standout bowler,
claiming six wickets, while Ibrahim Abdulrahimi also impressed with four
wickets.
Following their excellent bowling performance, Mahipar Stars
also delivered strongly with the bat too. In reply to Maiwand Champions’
first-innings total of 71, Mahipar Stars scored 199/10 runs in their first
innings and secured a 128-run first-innings lead. Riaz Hassan top-scored with
63 runs, while Mohammad Ishaq contributed 58 runs. For Maiwand Champions, Aftab
Alam took five wickets, while Nijat Masood and Bilal Sami claimed two wickets
each, with Abdullah Tarakhail taking one wicket.
Both first innings were completed before the end of the
opening day. When Maiwand Champions began their second innings, they once again
faced Mahipar Stars’ disciplined bowling attack and were reduced to 26/6 by the
close of play.
Ijaz Ahmadzai and Abdullah Tarkhail then came together and produced
an excellent batting display in the opening session of the second day. The pair
added 133 runs for the seventh wicket, not only erasing the first-innings
deficit but also giving Maiwand Champions a lead.
Ijaz Ahmadzai completed a century and remained unbeaten on
110*, while Abdullah Tarakhail scored 69 runs and Aftab Alam contributed 20.
Their efforts helped Maiwand Champions post 223 runs in their second innings
and set Mahipar Stars a target of 96 runs. For Mahipar Stars, Ibrahim
Abdulrahimzai took five wickets, Mohibullah Zarmati claimed three, and Yamin
Ahmadzai took one wicket.
Mahipar Stars successfully chased down the target for the
loss of four wickets to secure their first victory of the competition by six
wickets. Nasir Jamal scored 30 runs, while Shahidullah Kamal remained unbeaten
on 22* and Mohibullah Zarmati on 15*. For Maiwand Champions, Nijat Masood took
two wickets, while Abdullah Tarakhail and Arab Gul Momand claimed one wicket
each.
Mahipar Stars’ talented right-arm fast bowler Ibrahim Abdulrahimzai
played a crucial role in the victory, claiming nine wickets across the two
innings. His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
As the competition continues, Maiwand Champions will take on
Hindukush Strikers in Nangarhar Province next Thursday, while Mahipar Stars
will face Pamir Legends in Khost Province.
