Speen Ghar Region’s Faqir Wahab Cricket Club, led by Akbar Musazai, beat the Band-e-Amir Region’s Kabul Zalmi Cricket Club by two wickets in the final to win the Regional Club Championship 2023.
Regional Club Championship 2023 started on December 8 in Kandahar province which saw the top five regional clubs competing in a round-robin format, followed by the final between the top two teams, the Faqir Wahab Cricket Club and the Kabul Zalmi Cricket Club which was held today at the Kandahar National Cricket Stadium in Kandahar.
Earlier in the morning, Faqir Wahab CC (Speen Ghar) opted to field and put on an incredible bowling display to bundle the Kabul Zalmi (Band-e-Amir Region) for 119 runs in the first inning. Faisal Khan (22) and Dawood Ahmadzai (22) were the top two scorers with 22 runs each. For the FWCC, Abdul Akbar (2/8), Fahim Qasemi (2/13), Wali Agha (2/18), Akbar Hussain Shinwari (2/31) and Omar Amin (2/33) shared the ten wickets among them.
Barakzai Naseri (35), Riaz Akbari (28) and Tamim Surkhrodi (21) chipped in with important runs, and despite losing wickets, managed to take their team home by 2 wickets. For KZCC, Juma Sultani (3/29), Shafiqullah Ghafari (2/17), Dawood Ahmadzai (1/18), Rohullah (1/25) and Baryal Afghan (1/28) bowled their hearts out but were not able to defend their under par total. Omar Amin, who provided his team with an excellent early platform into the game, was awarded as the best player of the match.
Among others, Usman Noori (Kabul Zalmi) was adjudged as the best batter of the tournament for scoring 236 runs at 78.67. Jumadin Sultani (Kabul Zalmi), who picked up 15 wickets in the tournament was awarded as the best bowler of the event. Khial Mohammad was given the best player of the tournament award for scoring 51 runs and picking up 7 wickets in the tournament. In addition, Naveed Ahmadzai who scored 142 runs in 4 innings was awarded as the emerging player of the tournament.
The Regional Club Championship 2023 was ACB’s 10th domestic event in the year which will be followed by the Regional U16 Tournament, which starts on 21st December and marks the conclusion of the ACB’s domestic cricket activities in 2023.
