According to the annual domestic cricket calendar of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Grade 1 Provincial T20 Tournament is set to begin with Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces hosting the matches. The tournament will be held from February 3 to 13 of the current mounth.
The Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Grade 1 Provincial Tournament, which is being held in two formats for the first time this year, recently concluded its 50-over (one-day) format last week, where the Nangarhar team claimed the championship title.
According to the Domestic Cricket Department of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, the purpose of conducting these two formats is to identify and select talented and capable players for advancement to List A and Mirwais Nika Three-Day tournament, as well as for the National T20 Cup tournament.
The Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Grade 1 Provincial Tournament, being played in Kandahar and Nangarhar, will move to Nangarhar province for the semifinals and the final following the completion of the group-stage matches.
It is worth mentioning that the squads and players of the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Grade 1 One-Day Provincial Tournament will also take part in the this T20 event, so that the relevant players for the T20 and One-Day formats can be selected from among them.
